Dual-Wavelike Instability in Vortex Rings
نویسنده
چکیده
A series of experimental observation are presented a dual-wavelike instability in vortex rings. The first one is presented at Reynolds number range between 600 and 1000 for circular vortex ring and the second one could be observed in radiant-symmetric vortex rings, azimuthal number n ≥ 2, at least covers the Reynolds number from 275 to 1000. The azimuthal number of the first instability depends on the ratio η (of core radius to ring radius), while the azimuthal number of the second case accords with the shape of the orifice and the frequency of the second instability are also affected by the ratio η. The experimental results are compared with some theoretical prediction. Key–Words: vortex ring, dual-wavelike, instability, azimuthal number, Reynolds number

Numerical Investigation of Vortex Interaction in Pipe Flow
To discover the nonlinear characteristics of pipe flow, we simulated the flow as a sum of many vortex rings. As a first step, we investigated the nonlinear interaction among a maximum of three vortex rings. The pipe wall was replaced by many bound vortices. A free vortex ring moves right or left according to the radius, and that of a particular radius keeps the initial position. The energy of a...
متن کاملVortex rings in ferromagnets
Vortex ring solutions are presented for the Landau-Lifshitz equation, which models the dynamics of a three-dimensional ferromagnet. The vortex rings propagate at constant speed along their symmetry axis and are characterized by the integer-valued Hopf charge. They are stable to axial perturbations, but it is demonstrated that an easy axis anisotropy results in an instability to perturbations wh...

The present study involves a novel computational technique, regarding simultaneous use of the pseudo particle method, Poisson integral method and a special-purpose computer originally designed for molecular dynamics simulations (MDGRAPE-3). In the present calculations, the dynamics of two colliding vortex rings have been studied using the vortex method. The present acceleration technique allows...
متن کاملMixing Characteristics of Compressible Vortex Rings Interacting with Normal Shock Waves
The instability mechanisms and mixing enhancement arising from the interaction of a compressible vortex ring with a normal shock wave were studied in a colinear, dual-shock tube. This flow geometry simulates features of the interaction of a shock wave with a jet containing streamwise vorticity, a configuration of significant interest for supersonic combustion applications. Flow visualization an...
متن کاملShort-wavelength stability analysis of thin vortex rings
The linear stability of thin vortex rings are studied by short-wavelength stability analysis. The modified Hill–Schrödinger equation for vortex rings, which incorporates curvature effect, is derived. It is used to evaluate growth rates analytically. The growth rates are also evaluated by numerical calculation and they agree well with analytical values for small e which is the ratio of core radi...
